I am a court reporter who works in a county courthouse where one of these takes the balanced output of a Shure mixer with 4 mics as input. I use the line output for my recordings, and the 50w speaker output fills the courtroom, which is sometimes packed. This little amp can, unlike most consumer hardware, actually deliver the wattage it claims, without terrible distortion. 50w is not a whole lot perhaps, but for mobile presentations, hearings, miked meetings, it is a perfect solution. It also takes line level rca input, and the balanced xlr input can be either line or mic level apparently -- I have never tried, but it has a switch for that. At the courthouse we use the line, and have a small mixer.
This guy weighs 11 lb, is smaller than a breadbox, but can provide decent audio for a large room full of people quite easily. For the size, this really delivers. Perfect for a mobile slideshow or PowerPoint.

I bought these bad boys about 4 months ago and lemme tell ya THEY ROCK!!!!!!! The sound is clear and pristine with a balanced mid and highs to go with it. The bass is very good, but you might need subs to loosen peoples fillings for bigger rooms or huge shows. Everytime i had a gig people complimented me on how clean they sounded. That never happened with my mackies Lol.... Jbl really outdid themselves on this box this time around. I guess they had fix the old 515 problems. I highly suggest you music aficionados or musicians to check these babys out. There loud as hell..... without sacrificing sound quality in played music or vocals. My band bought two of these along with stands because we got tired of relying on sound equipment from others when we played gigs. We're incredibly pleased with the purchase.
First of all, these things are built like a tank. The construction is solid and quality shows in every aspect of these speakers. The handles are rubberized so that you can use them as monitors without worrying about them sliding around on the stage. However, we use them on stands with the integrated pole mount. It's a great setup, and these speakers are lightweight enough that we don't worry about them tipping over.
We really liked these speakers until we plugged into them and turned them on. At that point, we fell in love. The clarity of these speakers is superb, and that clarity persists even at very high volumes. They'll get plenty loud, too. We recently played a gig at a pretty loud (and big) restaurant/bar. I'm a professional music producer. These speakers are great at any price...clean and balanced across the entire spectrum but not at all clinical, a pleasure regardless of genre, will make you a fan of your favorite music all over again. Making speakers is like making a movie, the director may do their best on every little element but in the end there's an element of luck...with speaker it's materials + design + crossover components etc., and these are the magic formula. Some studio monitors are intentionally not "fun" to listen to but help you hear the soundstage, mix, etc....these these do all that in spades AND as a bonus they provide the breathtaking high fidelity music listening experience.

There are plenty of speakers out there, with more features than you'll ever use, and price tags that will make millionaires blink. Sometimes, you just want a good basic set of speakers. I just plugged these babies in, it was really easy. Just opened the box, plugged the USB cable in, and turned my computer on. You might have to restart your computer if it doesn't immediately recognize the speakers. There was no popping noise like some of the other reviewers experienced. I guess they were just unlucky. They sound pretty good, especially compared to the crappy Altec Lansing speaker built into my HP laptop. Even with every volume control turned all the way up, I could barely here the audio on movies and music which is why I wanted laptop speakers. And I wanted plug and play speakers powered through a USB cord rather than an AC Adapter. And I didn't want to pay over $20. The S150 speakers met all of these criteria. They're great!

I generally place a lot of stock in the customer reviews, as for the most part I have found the majority of the ratings to be accurate indicators of product quality. Accordingly, I purchased the Logitech S150 USB powered speakers based on relatively strong reviews. The first pair that I received rattled terribly and I thought that I just got a bad pair and ordered a second set. The second set is slightly better than the first, but the right control speaker to both sets rattle, sometimes excessively. The speakers will play adequately at low volumes, but if turned up to even a moderate level to overcome normal background noise, the right speaker will rattle, at least two for two for me. My recommendation is to purchase a different speaker. However there are some positive aspects to these speakers - they are attractive, small and the sound quality is not too bad, if the right speakers did not rattle, the S150 USB speakers would certainly rate at least a 4 based on the price... Pros: These USB speakers have crystal clear sound with no buzz or hum. The volume is plenty loud for normal use. They are perfect for listening to music while I work. The stereo effect and ability to produce faint sounds are excellent. No bulky, power strip hogging adapter is needed. The speakers turn on and off with the computer. The USB drivers installed automatically (Windows XP). I cannot believe these speakers are so inexpensive.
Cons: The shipping cost almost as much as the speakers. There is not much bass, but there is more than I expected with small speakers. Music still sounds very good. The bass is certainly better than earphones.
Other Thoughts: I was hesitant to go with USB, but I am very happy I did. I wanted to be able to use these in a bedroom, I wanted zero noise with the computer off, and I did not want to have to remember to turn the speaker power off. Each speaker is 6.5"H x 2.75"W x 2.25"D. The USB cord is about 4' and is about the same length... Read more
